Futsal Match Report

Futsal stadium signAnd lo the great day dawned and Sunday saw our intrepid teams arrive at the Futsal stadium in Swindon for a day of healthy competition.

The bacon butties were going down well and the teams huddled together to discuss their tactics. Some of the more ‘professional’ looking sides strutted their stuff by showing off their new team kit, or performing some warm up exercises.

Was this for their benefit… or to try to psyche out the opposition?

The Group stages proved most exciting with two hat-tricks scored by Bradford’s NAC [perhaps not so – Ed] Novices.  Liverpool House and Plymouth Pilgrims also proved they were ones to watch.

The winners the end of the Group stages were:

  • Group A – The Shield
  • Group B – Bertrams United – who qualified as top of the top dogs with a clean sheet of 5 wins and a 23-goal difference
  • Group C – Liverpool House
  • Group D – Slough City
  • Group E – Plymouth Pilgrims

Plus, The Class of 2014 made it through by the skin of their teeth and 1 point!

A refuelling or commiserating round of pizzas and sandwiches were served ahead of the afternoon’s crunch time, with everything still to play for.

The afternoon’s games saw some teams go from strength to strength, whilst elsewhere new names came to the fore. Had they been pacing themselves earlier in the morning in readiness for the afternoon’s play?

The qualifiers for the semi-finals were:

  • Liverpool House
  • Bertrams United
  • JACK’s
  • Surreal Madrid

… and then in the blink of an eye it was time for the final, with just Liverpool House and JACK’s left to play their hearts out for team glory.

So who lifted the Alan Humphrey trophy?

After an exciting game and consistent play all day, Liverpool House were the worthy winners.

Congratulations to them and everyone who played or came to support the teams on the day. We’re assembling an exciting slideshow of the day’s play, so watch this space!
