The Brecons Beckon

The Brecons Beckon

Peter Geoghegan of Rowan House sent this spectacular view to tempt you to join him on this year’s Mountain-Trail Challenge on September 14th. He’s chosen the 30 mile route through the Brecon Beacons which takes in three of its highest peaks – Fan y Big (719m), Corn Du (873m) and Pen y Fan (886m). He estimates the route will take him around 15 hours to complete (the website says between 10 to 18 hours is usual).

Peter will be raising money to support Acorns Childrens Hospice; if you join the challenge you can nominate a charity of your choice. It’s up to you to apply for the Challenge and make your own arrangements for training and the day, though I’m sure Peter won’t mind hearing from anyone who decides to join him.

It costs £25 to register, which must be done in advance of the day. Note, no additional sponsorship monies are expected by the organisers, though many participants – like Peter – choose to make their participation a fundraiser as well as a personal challenge. I see from the website that the event is open to walkers, joggers and runners, plus applications from individuals, pairs and teams are welcome.
