Training Plans – Your Help Needed

Over the past couple of years it’s become clear longer distance sporting challenges are a popular fundraising event at Smiths News. Taking part in one of our previous Flagship Fundraisers, or other organised sporting events has proved a great way of supporting your chosen causes. There’s been plenty of self or team organised challenges too, particularly those involving walking and cycling.

We’re currently looking at improving the Training Plans section of the site and this is where you come in. We have a wealth of Smiths News experience to tap into which will be helpful for those contemplating a challenge of their own, and who might need some guidance on where to start with their training.

Let us know of any training plans you’re using or used previously to get ready for your big event. These could be developed by you, a sports club or by an event’s organisers.

We currently have the beginner and intermediate plans developed for our previous Flagship Fundraiser bike rides and these are also suitable for rides of 300-400 miles spread over a few days.

We also have a copy of the Ridgeway Walk Training Guide which is a suitable start for any continuous distance walking of 26-52 miles as well as that particular trek.

It would be great to add to these and to extend it for other sporting activities such as swimathons and triathlons.

You can tell us about your favourite plan in the Comments below, or email Rachel Varney with the details. Please provide website link(s) or any electronic documents we can use where necessary.  We can then set up everything needed!

We’ll also be collating a set of training tips in addition to specific plans. These will be added to a new page on the blog, so do tell us about your favourites in the Comments below.
