All 21 of our cyclists set off this morning from sunny Aberystwyth for Day 1 of the Bike Ride from A-B.
Tom Sheehy, Regional Director North, and Paul Tucknett, House Manager Wednesbury, were there to offer moral support and encouragement to these plucky members of staff who are taking on this enormous challenge.
Local paper the Cambrian News sent a photographer to capture everyone at the start of the ride, and Aberystwyth MP Mark Williams was also there to wave them off.
They departed at 9.15 am in the warmth of 21C, ready to face a day of hills. Everyone was very excited to finally be on the road and keen to go.
Today’s Route = 65 miles: Most of the climbing comes in the first 20 miles, reaching a maximum height of 415m. Total climbing for the day is 2229m. A first scheduled and well-deserved stop at Devil’s Bridge, before the glorious descent to Llanidloes, which should be at around lunchtime. Newtown for a mid-afternoon stop, before passing through Montgomery, on the way to our first overnight stay at Bishop’s Castle.
